The history of sweets
You may ask yourself, who made the world’s first sweet?
It is interesting that you, like others, cannot find an exact answer to this question. But the general answer that can be obtained from the study of human history is that the world’s first sweets were created around 2000 BC in ancient Egypt from the combination of fruits and nuts with honey.
Since the discovery of the sugarcane plant in India and then the production of ‘sugar crystal’ from its sap until the beginning of the 19th century , only the rich enjoyed handmade sweets and the rest of the society used honey as a sweet.
But the renaissance in making sweets can be found at the same time as the renaissance in Europe ; When Europeans were able to achieve mass and industrial production of sugar through the growth of industry in the 19th century. Then, slowly , new sweets with a world of tastes were introduced to the world and were widely consumed by people. French macarons, Italian tiramisu and Dutch apple tart can be considered as examples of these unique delicacies.
By studying the history of Iran, the introduction of sugar can be attributed to the second decade of the 20th century and traces of the special sweets of each city can be found , which are considered as souvenirs of that city today. From baklava and qatab of Yazd and klompe of Kerman to Gaz of Isfahan and cookies of Gilan and Kak of Kermanshah.
Fortunately, today and in the 21st century with the increasing growth of communication, access to these unique delicacies has become very easy, and this is very good news for diehard fans of sweets.
